Free Counseling Services

Governors State University offers FREE counseling services (Illinois residents only) through the Division of Psychology and Counseling. The counseling service is offered as part of its training program for advanced graduate counseling students. All materials presented by clients during counseling sessions are confidential and available to no one except the supervising faculty and students in advanced training. Clients must be 18 years of age and older to receive individual counseling. Clients must be 16 years of age (with initial involvement of a parent) or older to receive career counseling. Children are encouraged to participate in family counseling. VISIT www.govst.edu/counselinglab/ to find a full list of subjects addressed by the counseling service and more. The counseling lab does not accept DCFS or court mandated clients or families, clients with substance abuse problems, or severely mentally distressed clients. GSU Counseling Lab offers in-person and virtual appointments.
